Counselling Services
Life is hard and confronting pain from life is harder. So why do it at all? Why not just be Ollie the ostrich? The simple answer is pain will manifest in ways you won’t like. For example, a nasty rash, inability to breathe, brain fog, irritability, bad relationships, poor work performance, fatigue, the list goes on and on.
I have been a high school teacher for fifteen years, students have always sought me out as a kind, non-judgmental ear. I have vast experience in many topics to do with counselling. I have heard shattering stories; life changing stories and it has always been a privilege to be trusted in a person’s most vulnerable moments. To bring someone some peace is my greatest offering.
I think of myself as a Conversational Counsellor. We chat, you tell me about your life. I get you to like me a bit and then I ask the dreaded question “What brought you here?”. We talk about why you chose therapy and I will ask some questions, you might not like some of them (remember we are not out on a coffee date – we are here for a reason). Throughout this somewhat difficult conversation, you must keep reminding yourself that you are safe. I am a safe space. What you say is confidential. There is no judgment ever.
The last ten/ fifteen minutes of counselling is set aside for looking back over the session and “homework”. We look at your plan for the future. Together we will decide the way forward and what you think is appropriate. I do believe a holistic life lends itself to mental wellness. I will not make you run the Comrades (yet) but we might decide to start a short walk a few times a week. We will look at scientifically proven methods to reduce anxiety and put you on the path to mental wellness. These include but are not exclusive to self-talk, mindfulness/ meditation, exercise, education (think podcast), journaling, affirmations and healthier eating.
I am a realist and not one for great change (this more than often results in failure). I believe in habit formation – slowly. We will grow from where you are.
Life Coaching Services
I was chatting with my cousin recently explaining to him what a Life Coach is. After my longwinded explanation, he said, “Oh like a Project Manager for a person”. This statement sums it up.
Together we will make SMART goals. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. We will discuss where you are and where you want to go. Your mind is the most powerful tool you have. We underestimate it all the time. As a little experiment, you could think about how many red cars you have seen today (you probably think that red cars don’t exist at this stage). Now answer this same question tomorrow. Just by considering a thought your brain is pulled towards it. You will think there is an explosion of red cars. Now think how much you could achieve if you were to put your brain on the right path. Your mind will do a lot more than counting red cars.
There are not enough words to explain how amazing you are, in fact, google it:
The amazing human body.
The amazing human brain.
The problem is, that we are mean to ourselves, we speak to ourselves in the worst way. Hello, self-doubt. And all the other lack of selves. Self-confidence, worth, love, etc, etc.
Life Coaching makes the impossible possible. It takes what you already have but makes it accessible. Changing one thing daily for 1 minute can make a profound difference in your life. We can start slow or jump in the deep end (providing the goals are smart)
If your goal is to lose weight, start a business, run the comrades, anything. I can help put you on the path of achievement. The path will be hard but together we can do it

Body Management
I am not a dietician or a sports coach. I am just a practical Life Coach that has lived through being overweight, yo-yo dieting and one of my all-time favourites the cabbage diet. I have taken myself from barely surviving a half-marathon to running the Comrades.
Body management is getting to a healthy place and belief about your body. I will help you set and achieve realistic goals around your eating and fitness. We can incorporate different eating plans (e.g. Keto or intermittent fasting) as long as they are healthy and sustainable.
If you are looking to do a sub 3.30 Marathon, I am not your girl. You need to call in the professionals.
If you are looking to become body positive, lose weight and get fit then I am your girl. I will use a combination of Life/ Health coaching and counselling. We will look at psychological barriers to unhealthy eating and resistance to exercise. We will then look at SMART goals and forming new habits. Goals that will lead to a lifestyle change not just a change in your waist line.
My goal is to get you to a place that you love your body, or at least like it. I want you to nourish your body with good food and I would like you to be relatively fit or if it is for you very fit. A healthy body is important as it leads to a healthy mind. The reason I run comrades is not because I love running 85km in the heat up hills. It is because I have to be very fit and I have to eat really well. Another really important factor is I run in a group which means I am surrounded by my friends. My group is my community, this is one of the most important factors in mental health, finding a community. By committing myself to a health goal it shapes my life for me.
My fitness and my health mean I am generally in a good mood, I can deal much better with stress, I generally have good energy levels, I can do amazing activities with my kids and friends, and though I don’t like my cellulite and my wobbly bits I do sort of like my body.
Whether you are young, old, female, male or non-binary I would love to help you on your journey to a healthy lifestyle.

Katherine Springett
Specialist Wellness Counsellor

I am a mother, a sister, a friend, a teacher and a runner.
I have a great passion for people and helping them make their lives into their best versions. I spent the first half of my career teaching High School which I loved, this has given me great insight into the teenage belief and value system. I navigated a divorce with humility and kindness to be able to grow and encourage others.
I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Economics. I later went on to complete a teaching degree (PGCE) and I am now SACE registered. In 2021 I finished my honours in Counselling Psychology and I completed my degree with distinction. In 2023 I studied the Humanitas course and I am now a certified Specialist Wellness counsellor.
In 2015 when I was between jobs. I volunteered at an NGO called Mama Ntombi Community Projects. I helped start a preschool for impoverished children. The preschool was to help children learn English in a fun and playful manner, this would assist when they had to go to an English-medium school. This experience was one of the highlights of my life.
I am also an ultra-runner and have done the Comrades twice (Whoop whoop). I am probably the most average runner out there. I like to take maximum advantage of my entrance fee, thus finishing in time (hopefully) but only just! Ultra running teaches you humility, patience, tenacity, resilience and grit. It also teaches you about friendships, sacrifice and gratitude for our amazing body.
